What-if Grade Planner
Enter your scores, explore assumptions, and see what you would need on the final exam.
A planning estimate, not an official grade.Enter scores from 0–100, not points earned. For example, 8 out of 10 → enter 80. Attendance is the only exception: it may be negative.
Type a score or move its linked slider. Scores use two decimal places after you finish editing. Sliders start at 0, but a blank field stays unknown until you enter a score. No scores are assumed automatically.
Example only. These are made-up scores, not expectations for your grade. Replace them with your own scores and assumptions.

Choose your own assumptions for ungraded categories.
These fields start blank. “Assumed” values are your scenarios, not scores assigned by the instructor. Change the score type if you receive a recorded grade.
Attendance score range: −540.00% to 100.00%.
Enter an attendance category score, not the number of absences. Use an instructor-provided score or mark your estimate “Assumed.” Scores can be negative: 100 contributes +5 course points, 0 contributes 0, and −20 contributes −1.
About attendance scores
The planner uses the same −540.00% to 100.00% input range for both sections. This does not change either section’s attendance policy.
Attendance is counted beginning September 1, 2026. MW allows four absences and MWF allows six. Each additional unexcused absence deducts one course percentage point, equivalent to 20 points from the attendance category:
Attendance score = 100 − 20 × max(0, counted absences − allowance)
Formally excused absences do not incur the deduction. See the syllabus attendance policy.
Participation reflects classwork submissions, in-class discussion, and office-hour discussion. Submission counts alone do not determine this score.
Your scenario
Estimated course grade
The final weighted total is rounded to the nearest whole number before assigning a letter grade: 82.50 → 83 → B.
Enter all five homework scores and the other category scores to see a scenario.
Recorded and assumed scores will be identified below.
What do I need on the final?
—
Complete the inputs other than the final exam to calculate a requirement.
Includes whole-number rounding of the final course total: a B requires an unrounded total of at least 82.50. The required final-exam score is rounded up to two decimals so it does not understate the target.
This planner does not include scores above 100% or possible extra credit. Additional credit, if awarded, may help you reach your target grade, but is not guaranteed.
How it adds up
| Category | Weight | Course points |
|---|
Course points = category score × weight. Exams are 50% overall: 30% midterm and 70% final within that category, giving 15% and 35% of the course.
Check the assumptions. The project and final exam together account for 55% of the course. This tool cannot tell you an official grade before all work is graded. Inputs use two decimal places; intermediate averages and weighted contributions are not rounded. Only the final weighted course total is rounded to a whole number; .50 rounds up. The percentage shown above is displayed to two decimals, but its display formatting is not used for the letter grade. No extra credit is assumed. See the syllabus grading policy.
Your scores stay in this tab. The planner does not save or transmit the scores you enter. Reloading or clearing the page resets the planner. Do not enter your name or student ID.
